Terms of sale
Who you are buying from
This shop is run by the family trading as Olivius Olive Oil. Who that is in law, the registration and the VAT number are all on the imprint, and are not repeated here: one place to keep current is one place to get wrong.
You can reach us through our contact form or at shop@oliviuscreta.com.
These terms apply to orders placed by consumers at shop.oliviuscreta.com. Businesses buying for resale should read the wholesale terms instead.
What we sell
Extra virgin olive oil, produced from Koroneiki olives grown in our own groves at Zakros, Sitia, Crete. One oil, offered in several sizes. There is no reserve bottling and no second grade: every size contains oil from the same pressing.
Full labelling information for each size, covering net quantity, origin, acidity, harvest year, storage and best before, is shown on the product page and summarised under product information.
Photographs are illustrative. Olive oil is an agricultural product and its colour and flavour vary from harvest to harvest. That variation is not a defect.
Prices
All prices are in euro and include VAT at the rate applying in your delivery country. The price you see on the product page is the price you pay for the goods; shipping is added at checkout and shown before you confirm.
We may change prices at any time, but never for an order you have already placed. If a price is obviously and significantly wrong, say a decimal point in the wrong place, or a bottle listed at a fraction of its cost, we may cancel the order and refund you in full rather than fulfil it. We will tell you if that happens.
How an order is made
Placing an order works like this:
- You add items to your basket and enter your delivery details.
- You choose how to pay and confirm the order. This is your offer to buy.
- We reserve the stock and send you an acknowledgement by email.
- The contract is formed when we confirm dispatch, not when you pay.
If we cannot fulfil an order, because the last tin sold a moment earlier, or we cannot deliver to your address, we will tell you and refund anything you have paid, in full.
No account is required and none is offered. You check out as a guest and find your order afterwards using the order number and the email you used. We do not ask you to create a password to buy olive oil. Your order emails also carry a direct link that opens the order without asking for anything, which is why it stops working 90 days after the order is delivered or cancelled. If we have no confirmation of delivery, we treat the order as delivered 14 days after we send it.
Because nothing is charged upfront, an order that is never paid for is cancelled by us automatically rather than left open. The timings are under paying, and you get an email before it happens.
Paying
By SEPA bank transfer. That is the only way to pay, and we would rather say so here than let you reach the last step and find out. We do not take cards, and there is no card processor between us: the money moves from your bank to ours, and what we see is that it arrived and what reference came with it.
Everything you need for the transfer is on your order page and in the email we send when you order. Quote your order number as the reference. Without it we have a payment and an order and no way to tell they belong together.
Two dates follow, and they do different things:
- The first is when we ask you to have sent the money. Miss it and nothing is cancelled; we email you once to ask whether it is still coming.
- The second is when the order lapses. At that point it is cancelled automatically and the bottles go back on the shelf for somebody else. If your transfer was slow and arrives afterwards, write to us and we will sort it out rather than keep your money.
Both dates are on your order page and in the email we send when you order, in full, before you send anything. They are not printed here because they are settings we can change, and a date kept in two places is a date that will one day disagree with itself.
Bank transfers between euro accounts in the EU usually clear quickly. From outside the euro area they can take longer, so start it early if your bank is slow.
Ownership of the goods passes to you when we have received payment in full. Risk of loss or damage passes when the goods are handed to you or to a carrier you appointed yourself.
Delivery
We deliver within the European Union only. Every order leaves from the grove at Zakros in Crete. How shipping is worked out, and what happens if a parcel is damaged or does not arrive, is in the shipping policy. What it costs for your basket is shown at checkout before you confirm anything.
Delivery estimates are estimates. If we have not delivered within 30 days of the contract, you may set a reasonable additional period; if we miss that too, you may cancel and we will refund you in full.
If something is wrong with it
You have a legal guarantee of conformity under EU law for two years from delivery. If the goods are faulty, damaged, or not what was described, you are entitled to have them repaired or replaced, or to a price reduction or a refund. This is your right by law and nothing in these terms reduces it.
In practice, for olive oil, that usually means: a leaking or broken bottle, a seal that was not intact, a product past its best before date on arrival, or an oil that is rancid. Tell us within a reasonable time of noticing, and send a photograph if you can.
This is separate from your right to change your mind, which is covered in the returns and refunds policy.
Storing it properly
Olive oil is damaged by heat and light far faster than by time. Keep it cool, dark and sealed, away from the hob, and use it within about eighteen months of harvest. If you bought a tin, decant a little into a smaller bottle for daily use and leave the rest sealed.
Oil that has been left open in sunlight on a windowsill for a year has not failed to conform. It has been stored badly, and that is outside the guarantee.
What we do not promise
We make no health claims for this product, and nothing on our website should be read as one. Under Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 only authorised claims may be made for a food, and claims about preventing or treating disease are prohibited entirely. If you have read a health claim attributed to Olivius somewhere, it did not come from us.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Subject to that, our liability for any order is limited to the amount you paid for it.
Complaints and disputes
Write to our contact form. A real person reads it and a real person answers it.
If we cannot resolve it between us, you may take the matter to an alternative dispute resolution body or to the consumer authority in your own country. In Greece that is the Consumer Ombudsman (Συνήγορος του Καταναλωτή). The European Consumer Centre in your country can tell you which body applies to you.
Note on the EU ODR platform: the European Online Dispute Resolution platform was permanently discontinued on 20 July 2025 and no longer accepts complaints. We do not link to it, and any website still doing so is pointing you at something that does not exist.
These terms are governed by Greek law. As a consumer you keep the protection of any mandatory provisions of the law of the country where you live, and you may bring proceedings there.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your order is the one published when you placed it, and we keep the date of the last change at the top of this page.
